Introduction

Up high in the mountains, far away from civilisation lived and old man and his adopted grandson. The old man was named Gohan and the boy named Goku. Gohan taught Goku about martial arts and saw that the boy possessed some fantastic abilities. Sadly, Gohan died when a giant ape creature that comes out during the full moon stepped on him. Now living all alone Goku goes about his daily business of hunting and training. However, a chance encounter with a girl named Bulma sets off a whole new adventure for Goku as he goes in search of the mystical Dragon Balls. Along the way he meets a whole array of new friends and a good deal of powerful enemies. Goku initially sets off with Bulma because agents of Emperor Pilaf steal his grandfather�s 4 star Dragon Ball, but soon enough he becomes heavily involved in Dragon Ball related adventures. After training alongside the fabled Master Roshi and another of his pupils, Krillin, Goku takes part in the Tenkaichi Budokai; a world martial arts tournament for the best fighters from across the land. However, this is only the beginning and soon enough Goku is battling evil demons, creatures from beyond the grave and even green aliens. For the length of the series Goku trains under many different masters and learns many new skills, but more importantly he is always around to protect people from the evil that would harm them. From start to end Goku grows up a lot and develops many friendships that hold strong right the way through to the end of Dragon Ball GT.

Character Biographies

	Goku Goku is only a child when Dragon Ball begins, being just 12 years old when he first takes part in the Tenkachi Budokai. He has lived alone for many years since the death of his grandpa, but in that time he has enjoyed his tranquil surroundings. After meeting with Bulma, Goku sets off on his first fantastic journey to gather the Dragon Balls and stop Emperor Pilaf from taking over the world. Goku�s most peculiar characteristic is his tail. Having never lived in civilisation means that Goku sees nothing wrong with having a tail. However, his friends quickly discover that when Goku�s tail is caught in the light of a full moon, a horrible transformation takes place.
	Bulma Bulma Briefs is a city girl looking for some adventure during her summer holidays. Being the daughter of a famous scientist means she has all the money she will ever need and so chooses to go hunting for the legendary Dragon Balls. When she meets Goku for the first time she realises that his strength could come in handy and so invite him along for the trip. Through the course of her adventures Bulma meets the bandit Yamcha and immediately falls head over heels for him. The pair shares a rocky relationship but clearly like each other enough to at least give things a chance. Bulma�s worst quality is definitely her terrifying temper that could see any warrior running in fear.
	Krillin This budding young warrior is first seen by Bulma and the others training in a deserted forest. It soon emerges that the boy named Krillin wishes to train with Master Roshi to become the greatest martial artist on the planet. A rivalry sparks up between Goku and Krillin with the later often stopping to all new levels of deviousness to get his way. However, over time the two become the best of friends and Krillin recognises as much as anyone that Goku has some tremendous power behind his miniscule figure. Having been bullied by the temple monks where he used to train, Krillin is more than happy to show off his new skills to them all at the Tenkachi Budokai.
	Master Roshi Once the greatest martial artist on the planet, Master Roshi has grown into a perverted old man who spends his time looking through dirty magazines and ogling young women. Despite this rather unsociable habit, Roshi is a fantastic teacher to both Goku and Krillin. He once taught Chi Chi�s father the Ox King and Goku�s grandpa Gohan how to fight as well. This is all Goku needs to know in order to push himself all the way, while Krillin only needs to see how far his partner is ahead of him to spur himself on. Roshi is often referred to as the Turtle Hermit as he wears a large turtle shell on his back. The boys have to wear this same shell during training in order to increase their overall power.
	Yamcha Yamcha is a desert bandit who stops Goku and Bulma as they make their way across Diablo Desert. Not just a pretty boy with long hair, Yamcha is famed for his move, the Wolf Fang Fist. This attack is said to turn Yamcha himself into a wolf as he strikes his opponent. Initially the bandit pretends to help the group, when really all he wants is to get the Dragon Balls for himself. However, over time he gives up his evil ways and joins forces with Goku. His dreams are realised when Master Roshi accepts him as a pupil and gives him the same training he gave Goku. Though Yamcha shares a torrid relationship with Bulma Briefs, the two do not stay together for long as they simply annoy each other too much at times.
