Dragonball Z

Introduction

One of the most popular animated series and one of the most widely recognized brands in the world; Dragonball Z is the story of a Saiyan boy from outer space to destroy the planet earth, but as a young boy Goku fell into a ravine and badly injured his head a complete forgot about his mission. Several years later Goku, his son Gohan, and their friends and fellow Z Fighters Battle the evil's of the universe for the sake of good. Goku, our hero, grows up during the series, gets married and has children of his own; friendships develop, loyalties are tested, and some characters over time turn from their evil ways to become allies with the good guys.This saga is just the first in the long running Dragon Ball Z series. Following on from the arrival of Raditz, Goku comes up against more of his Saiya-jin brethren and even worse foes. From his humble beginnings, Goku begins to learn more and more of his past while continuing to grow ever stronger. Trouble always seems to find the light-hearted warrior as he comes up against the strongest opponents the universe has to offer; each time being able to surpass them in skill and power. Goku seems to gain more and more family and friends as the series progresses and comes to rely on these people in times of need. Throughout DBZ, the characters all grow and develop together, facing new challenges as a team. Friendships are formed between the unlikeliest of people and opponents are always in plentiful supply.

Character Biographies

Goku

Just as he was in Dragon Ball, Goku is a big-hearted individual without an evil thought in his head. His innocence is what sets him apart from other Saiya-jins and is often the one thing that makes him a truly great man. After dealing with his elder brother, Goku must face Prince Vegeta in the toughest battle of his life, eventually emerging victorious thanks to his friends. From here Goku comes across the evil lord Frieza on Namek, battles evil abominations back on earth and often finds himself training hard in Other World. Throughout the series, Goku is relied upon as earth�s most powerful protector and through sheer will and determination; he is always able to take things up a gear to defeat his opponents.

Vegeta

Vegeta is the prince of all Saiya-jins and along with Goku, is one of the last remnants of his race. Initially Vegeta comes to earth with his partner Nappa to steal the Dragon Balls and use them to wish for immortality. However, after facing defeat against Goku and then dying at the hands of Frieza on Namek, Vegeta slowly begins to shift alignments. As time passes his evil inclinations slip away, yet he always retains his pride and his bitterness at the fact that a mere low level Saiyan like Goku could be stronger than him. No matter how hard he tries or how far he pushes, Vegeta cannot outclass Goku on the battlefield and this is something that hurts him deeply.

Gohan

Gohan is the son of Goku and clearly shares both his father�s kind heart and astounding appetite. Gohan changes from a helpless young boy in the beginning of Dragon Ball Z, to one of the most powerful warriors around later in the series. He takes part in the battle against Vegeta and Nappa when just a mere baby and saves the world from Cell at age 11. It is obvious that Gohan has some kind of hidden power deep down inside, a power that comes naturally to him when he grows angry. Though he looks up to his father and respects him a great deal, Gohan�s best friend is his father�s old enemy, Piccolo. The Namek warrior was the one who first trained Gohan and over time the two have grown very close.

Piccolo

For the longest time this odd-looking warrior has no idea of where he comes from or how he ended up on earth. Now a changed man after his evil doings in the Dragon Ball series, Piccolo helps Goku to face and overcome many foes. It is Vegeta that reveals to him that he is a Namek and his planet is far off in space. Regardless, Piccolo begins to train Gohan after seeing a great deal of potential in the boy. Very quickly Piccolo begins to change and shows true compassion for this child, as he is his first true friend. Piccolo shares a deep-rooted link with the protector of the earth: Kami. This is because the two were once the same person, but Kami rid himself of all evil and Piccolo Daimo was the result. This Piccolo is Daimo�s offspring.

Frieza

The tyrannical Frieza has long plagued the universe with his selfish plots and deeds. The shape-changing alien uses his many troops to forcefully take over planets and then sell them off to the highest bidder. Frieza found that the Saiya-jins were the ideal race to be a part of this syndicate and so he became their master. Over time the overlord came to realise that the Saiyans were becoming a threat to his power, so in the blink of an eye he wiped them out bar a handful that were not on the home planet at the time. Since this day it has been Goku�s destiny to avenge his people and kill Frieza for what he has done. However, Frieza is not one to mess with and soon Goku must push himself to all new levels in order to attain victory.

Cell

After Goku so easily defeated the Red Ribbon Army in the Dragon Ball series, an operative of the organisation named Dr. Gero began work creating androids designed to defeat the powerful warrior. A series of androids and cyborgs were constructed, but none so fearsome as Cell. Cell has been formed from the genes of all the greatest fighters, including Goku and Vegeta. To achieve his perfect form he must absorb Androids 17 and 18 into his body and for some reason Vegeta seems more than willing to let him. As the twisted Cell Games begin, all the Z Fighters must rely on their intensive training to pull them through while at the same time preventing Cell from blowing up the earth.

Majin Buu

Eons ago, an evil wizard named Bibidi created a fearsome beast so powerful that it was able to destroy entire planets. This wizard sought great power and set his beast against the Kai�s themselves, defeating and absorbing all but one of them. This abomination was known as Buu and now Bibidi�s son Babidi has resurrected his father�s creation and is intent on destroying the world. Majin Buu is a fat, pink creature with the mind of a child but the power of a fearsome warrior. With his ability to regenerate, Buu seems almost unstoppable and the Z Fighters are unable to prevent the destruction of earth. This is the last great villain of Dragon Ball Z, but will Goku be able to overcome him as he has so many others?
