Yu-Gi-Oh!

Introduction

Duel Monsters is a card-battling game in which players pit different mystical creatures against one another in wild, magical duels! Packed with awesome monsters and mighty spell-cards, Yugi and his friends are totally obsessed with the game. But there's more to this card game than meets the eye! Legend has it five thousand years ago, ancient Egyptian Pharaoahs used to play a magical game very similar to Duel Monsters. This ancient game involved magical ceremonies, which were used to foresee the future and ultimately, decide one's destiny. They called it the Shadow Game, and the main difference back then was that the monsters were all real! With so many magical spells and ferocious creatures on the earth, it wasn't long before the game got out of hand and threatened to destroy the entire world! Fortunately, a brave Pharaoh stepped in and averted this cataclysm with the help of seven powerful magical totems. Now, in present times, the game has been revived in the form of playing cards. Meanwhile, Yugi's grandfather gives Yugi an old Egyptian puzzle that no one can solve, but when Yugi finally pieces the puzzle together, his life is forever changed. The puzzle instills Yugi with incredible powers, and ultimately creates his alter ego, Yami Yugi! Soon after, the mysterious creator of the Duel Monsters card game, Maximillion Pegasus, kidnaps Yugi's grandfather and Yugi is drawn into a Duel Monster's competition that Pegasus arranged. Now Yugi must duel his way through a tournament and defeat Pegasus in order to save his grandfather.

Character Biographies

Yugi

When Yugi was growing up, his Grandfather gave him an ancient Egyptian artifact called the "Millenium Puzzle" to try and figure out. It is said that whosoever manages to solve this puzzle will be granted dark and mysterious powers. Yugi eventually was able to solve the Millenium Puzzle, and when he did, something amazing happened! The age-old powers of the puzzle flooded out and Yugi became Yami Yugi. While Yugi, himself, may not know the full extent of the Millenium Puzzle's power, he's slowy discovering its mysterious links to ancient Egypt.

Yami-Yugi

When the Millennium Puzzle activates, Yugi is filled with its magical energies and becomes Yami Yugi, his much more powerful alter ego. Not only is Yami Yugi a master dueler, but he’s full of confidence and courage.

Bakura

Bakura is a school friend of Yugi's. You'd think their shared passion to play Duel Monsters would give them plenty to bond over, but there's just something not quite right about him. Could it be the rare and powerful Millenium ring that he possesses? After all, it seems that when the magical ring activates, Bakura cannot control its dark powers...

Maximillion Pegasus

Sophisticated and cultured, Pegasus is not only the ingenious creator of the Duel Monster's game, but seems to be a perfect gentleman, as well. However, Pegasus has many dark secrets. His left eye has been replaced with an ancient Egyptian artifact called the "Millenium Eye," a totem that gives Pegasus strange and magical powers. Pegasus modeled Duel Monsters after a mysterious Egyptian game thousands of years old.

Joey Wheeler

Once a wild and tough street kid, Joey has learned the value of friendship and has become a loyal buddy to Yugi. Although sometimes Joey's harsh street background can make him hot-headed and too quick to act before he thinks, he has a heart of gold and would do anything for his friends, especially his younger sister, who lives apart from him.

Tea Gardner

Among all of Yugi's friends, Téa is the voice of reason. A childhood friend of Yugi's, Téa is also the biggest cheerleader in the group, always encouraging everyone to believe in themselves and to never give up. Téa loves her friends so very much and is willing to help them in any way she possibly can.

Tristan Taylor

Tristan met Yugi at the same time as his long time pal, Joey. And even though these two friends bicker with each other every once in awhile, they always cover each other's backs. Sometimes he's quick to panic, but when it comes down to it, Tristan is willing to do whatever it takes to support and cheer on his friends.

Mai Valentine

Mai is one of the top duelists in the world and fights for the riches that await only the best. Posh and frequently self-absorbed, Mai is not above using her charm to advance her situation. Though she plays for superficial reasons, Mai may yet learn from Yugi's example.

Seto Kaiba

Kaiba is not only a passionate duellist but he is also the CEO of his own company, KaibaCorp, a company that specialises in developing duelling systems. Kaiba is credited for the creation of the Duelling Arenas that are used in the Duellist Kingdom but he is also the creator of the two forms of portable duelling systems and the VirtuaPod game system. Kaiba used to believe that Duel Monsters was only about power, but after his encounters with Yugi he is beginning to believe that there may be a heart of the cards, although he is not willing to admit it anybody else.
